Dear Students and Families,
Welcome to ¶ºÄÌÊÓƵ, and thank you for taking the time to learn more about us. We have a phrase here—“It’s a great day to be a Mustangâ€â€”and this phrase summarizes the spirit of our campus. Ours is a community centered on our students’ success, providing them with exceptional experiences, and connections to successful careers.
Here you will find exceptional experiences that allow you to grow and develop, explore new interests, and fully realize your potential. Imagine traveling abroad to explore the ecosystems of a tropical rainforest; creating fashions that will be exhibited on a New York runway; or scoring a goal that secures your team the conference championship. These experiences and more are available at Stevenson.
Producing career-ready graduates has always been central to our mission. Through a process that includes career exploration and professional preparation, we connect you with career paths and foster the skills and mindset needed for professional advancement. When you walk across the stage as a graduating senior at commencement, you will have more than just a degree from Stevenson. You will have career direction and the confidence needed for success in your chosen field.
Lastly, becoming a Stevenson Mustang means you are part of a close-knit community that will support you from day one and help you achieve your vision of success. Our mission is to help you grow, discover, and realize your aspirations. Here you will find the guidance and support to do this—whether you want to develop your leadership skills, explore your passion for the arts, serve our community, conduct your own research, or pursue a career-defining internship. You will find mentors in our faculty, staff, and coaches, and, through our campus’ rich social and cultural life, you will make connections and friendships that will last a lifetime.
Our website contains many resources for you to learn about Stevenson. I encourage you to visit our beautiful campus, meet our students and faculty, and see for yourself the outstanding opportunities, activities, and facilities that Stevenson offers.
With best wishes for your college search,
Elliot Hirshman, Ph.D.
Stevenson welcomed its seventh president, Elliot Hirshman, Ph.D., on July 3, 2017. Dr. Hirshman has more than 35 years of experience in higher education, and he previously served as president of San Diego State University (SDSU) before becoming president of ¶ºÄÌÊÓƵ. Prior to Dr. Hirshman’s appointment at SDSU, he served as provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). He also served as Chief Research Officer at the George Washington University and chaired the Department of Psychology there and at the University of Colorado at Denver. He began his academic career, rising to the rank of full professor, at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
During his time at Stevenson, Dr. Hirshman has worked with colleagues to develop Stevenson’s campus, expanding indoor and outdoor spaces for student life and recreation; adding new academic facilities; and developing the university’s 117-acre East campus. In addition, he has worked to create more career-focused academic programs and exceptional opportunities for students’ professional development, including the university’s B.S. in Biomedical Engineering, Professional Minors programs, and Stevenson’s first doctoral program, the Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology.
