Lauren Martin, a Marketing major with a Professional Minor in Management and Organizational Leadership, fuses her classroom curriculum with hands-on experiences to make herself the best leader she can be on the path to her future career.
The broad range of classes offered in the Marketing program allowed Lauren to narrow down her interests each semester while still trying new things, ultimately leading her to her desired career goal: an admissions counselor in the higher education field. From these classes, Lauren has adopted a variety of skills involving the creation of marketing plans, social media and website management, and the development of her personal brand. She has also had the opportunity to receive certifications for her resume, like Google Analytics.
Furthermore, Lauren obtained an internship at Banyan Hill, a publishing company in Baltimore, during a Career Fair that the School of Business and Leadership hosted during her sophomore year. There, she learned how to build a new organizational system for the marketing team and attended meetings about marketing campaigns. 鈥淏eing able to take what I have learned in my classes and apply it to real career scenarios was an incredible experience, while also gaining contacts that will support my career for life,鈥� Lauren says.
In addition to her major, Lauren studies Management and Organizational Leadership, one of Stevenson鈥檚 seven Professional Minors. 鈥淢anagement and Organizational Leadership has given me an insight on how to manage a team of people and excel in my leadership qualities. [It] has helped me substantially in taking large leadership roles in the organizations I am involved with on campus. I know that no matter what career field I go into, I am equipped to maintain an organized team,鈥� she remarks.聽
Lauren notes that Stevenson鈥檚 Career Connection Center is a source of unlimited career support for her both during and after college: 鈥淭hey have helped me with my resume, cover letters, updating job recruitment applications, internships, and many events around campus with alumni and speakers who provide insight on how they have become successful.鈥澛�
On campus, Lauren is a Senior Ambassador, the Director of Public Relations and Alumni Outreach for the , and the Commuter Student Assistant for Student Activities. Lauren has also been elected as the next Student Government Association President for the upcoming academic year. 鈥淪tevenson already has such an excellent community of determined students and supportive staff. My goal as SGA President is to utilize that and be the voice that students need to encourage change,鈥� she says.聽
