¶ºÄÌÊÓƵ Marching Band Featured in New Apple TV+ Series
¶ºÄÌÊÓƵ’s Marching Band can be seen in the opening scenes of Lady in the Lake, a new miniseries streaming on Apple TV+. The series, adapted from the novel of the same name by author Laura Lippman, focuses on a journalist’s efforts to solve two unsolved murders in 1960s Baltimore.
The Marching Band’s scenes—set during the series’ 1966 Thanksgiving Parade—were filmed in September 2022 during the first week of classes. The band’s participation required careful planning, recalled Director of Music Mark Lortz.
“The production company put out the call for a marching band,” Lortz said. “Due to their filming schedule, we had to work quickly to make sure the students could participate, but it was a fantastic opportunity we couldn’t pass up.”
The Marching Band and faculty were on set in Downtown Baltimore for a full day of filming. The day began with initial staging and choreography work at the War Memorial Plaza before moving to Water Street for filming.
“The students had the opportunity to see what goes into making a cinematic production,” Lortz said. “The experience gave all the students a peek behind-the-scenes, while giving them the chance to interact with the actors, the producers, the camera operators, the set people, and everyone involved. The director herself was really taken by the band’s performance.”
The first two of the series’ six episodes premiered on July 19. The remaining episodes will be released on Fridays over the next four weeks.
The ¶ºÄÌÊÓƵ Marching Band will next perform at Convocation. This will be the band’s first performance in its new uniforms. Follow Stevenson Music on or , and follow ¶ºÄÌÊÓƵ on and for the latest updates.
